We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Well hello April, where the hell did you come from? Maybe it's not a huge surprise given how days are seriously starting to blend together 2-3 weeks into self-quarantine/safer-at-home measures.

Not handling the self-isolation that well? No worries, neither are we.

Gyms are closed, bars are closed, conventions are cancelled, movie releases postponed. Even for those that regularly work from home, the current situation we are all experiencing across the world is, let's face it, EFFING INSANE. And it's okay to be going stir-crazy, feeling stressed, depressed, irritable, and maybe just plain devastated and discombobulated.

Take a moment for yourself.
Right now.

Close your eyes while doing the following:

Take a deep 4-count breath IN
1...2...3...4

Hold it for a 4-count
1...2...3...4

Take a slow 4-count breath OUT
1...2...3...4

Do it again.

Do it a few times if you feel the need.

Open your eyes when you're finished.

Hopefully for those few seconds your brain had a brief moment to chill the eff out. When all else fails, just breathe.

We will all get through this. It's not going to be easy, and it's not going to be quick. But geeks and nerds are nothing if not brilliantly creative, inventive, empathic and the kings and queens of being social through cyber methods only!

The key thing to remember is this: social distancing is NOT social isolation.

Call your mom, text your sister, FaceTime/Zoom/Discord with your friends. We are thankfully in an age where there's a ridiculous number of amazing ways to stay connected with others from the safety and security of our homes. I know anxiety/depression can make it unbearably difficult sometimes to have the energy to get on social media or arrange a cyber hang-out with friends, but we believe in you.

You can do it.

WHAT WE'VE BEEN DOING!

  • Nightly workouts with gym buddies through Zoom
  • Daily walks
  • Sleeping 10+ hours
  • Obsessing over Uhura the Cat
  • Staying up to 4 AM rereading fanfics
  • Netflix Parties with friends (you can never watch The Great British Bake Off too many times!)
  • Procrastinating on work
  • Trying to remember when we last showered (when you can't remember you should probably go ahead and shower)
  • Crying
  • Marathon rewatch of The Office
  • Marathon rewatch of Parks & Rec
  • Marathon rewatch of Community
  • Marathon rewatch of...you get the idea

What have you been up to during your quarantine? We'd love to hear about it in the comments! Feel free to hit us up via FB/IG messenger or email if you'd like to chat about anything, everything, or nothing! We're here for you boo.

I read a lot, I watch TV, I play board games with my son and with my husband, I call friends, I clean my house, I watch tv, I’m finishing my first novel, I do judo on youtube , I play guitar , I laugh a lot, I’m dieting and sunbathing (when this will be all over I want to look like I was on vacation in Maldivas!) , I’m helping people to feel better. I work 3 days a week in hospital, and I try to be positive every second of this nightmare.

I’m watching a lot of Disney channel teen series on Disney+. Makes me grateful we didn’t have smartphones in the 90s and it’s what my husband calls “chewing gum for the brain”. I Attempt to write, and fail. Even at fanfic. My husband is still working (railway), so I constantly worry about him. We curl up after he gets home and watch Critical Role on youtube and I have TNG on a constant rewatch. But communicating online is great!
